Honeywell Smart Wifi Thermostat Reviews

Smart thermostats are a key part of the idea of the "connected home," in which various wifi enabled devices communicate with each other in order to automatically make adjustments, purchase refills, or otherwise make your daily life a little bit easier. This can range from your refrigerator to your lighting and everything in between, but one type of smart device in particular has the potential to save you significant money in addition to giving you convenience. I'm talking about smart thermostats enabled with wifi that allow you to set a schedule that will conserve energy and adjust your heating and cooling remotely when things change. Many models learn from the preferences you set and make the right adjustments without you doing anything. Some even have advanced features such as room sensors to automatically detect when no one is in a particular room and adjust the settings accordingly.

With all of these possible features, the next question becomes who makes the best smart thermostat. Honeywell is one name that's trusted and has numerous home products in various areas. Nest is another well-known brand that is owned by Alphabet, the parent company of Google. This post will take a bit of a closer look at Honeywell smart thermostats, and we'll start by comparing them to the Nest.

Honeywell vs. Nest Thermostats

After Nest unveiled its learning thermostat, whose adaptive capabilities allow it to self-adjust once you've had a period of time doing it yourself, it has gone through several iterations that have improved on the original technology. But the core idea of "learning" what you like and automatically making tweaks has remained. Honeywell, on the other hand, has a few different options that cater to different preferences, including that of price. (For example, if you're looking for a bare bones option and don't need wifi compatibility you can get a programmable thermostat for under $20.) Some of the models have "smart" features but none to the level of Nest. This isn't a negative: there are many users who prefer the less automated nature. Let's now take a closer look at them so you can see what the ideal honeywell thermostat would be for you.

Top Honeywell Thermostat Reviews

1. Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control

This model supporting voice commands is one of the "smartest" in the Honeywell line. The voice control feature is quite convenient and isn't something that the Nest can do, so that's one point for Honeywell if that functionality is important to you. Over time, the device will also learn from your commands and add new ones based on your interactions. It also has a highly customizable color touchscreen and smart response temperature timing, so it knows to pre-heat or pre-cool the home at key moments.

2. Honeywell RTH9580WF Wi-Fi Smart Touchscreen Thermostat

This model also has some smart features but not a fully adaptive capacity to learn like you see with the Nest models. The customization possible is extensive and of course you get a fully remote experience using your wireless and the app, but small tweaks you make manually won't override the settings that you selected in the long run. Many people prefer this to the Nest as it gives them a greater degree of control of their adjustments and don't want to see all their careful configurations erased during a day that might not be their regular routine.

3. Honeywell TH8732WF5018 Lyric WiFi Thermostat

Honeywell also has a line it calls the "Lyric" and these models have the ability to adjust your temperature as you come and go without you needing to tell it what to do. This might sound Nest-like, but it isn't: Honeywell utilizes something it calls "geofencing" which basically means it tracks your phone and uses that to know where you are. When you cross a certain barrier, such as your workplace parking lot or your street, it will jump into action. So not really what the Nest does, but still a helpful feature.

4. Honeywell RTH6580WF Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

Not everyone needs lots of fancy features and prefer to be the "smart" one in the house while their devices play second fiddle. But these same users will still find themselves in a situation where something unexpected comes up and they want to override their regular daily thermostat settings. For these people Honeywell is the brand to go with, as it has a few good and cheaper simpler wifi thermostats such as this one, the RTH6580WF. It's 7-day programmable and has wifi connectivity but it isn't particularly flashy. Still, it's convenience and usable with a nice backlight and digital display, so if you're looking for a wifi thermostat but are on a budget, it's a good one to look at.

All in all, Honeywell has a wide variety of home products including thermostats that can help you achieve the dream of the "connected home." We haven't looked at every single model in this article, but the ones we selected do a good job of showing you the range of what the company has to offer. Which is your favorite? Or do you prefer another brand? Let us know in the comments below.
